Town Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Te Arobft Town Board was held on Saturday evening last. Present : Corns Gallagher (Chairman), Eberfc, and Heathcote. The minutes of the last monthly meetiner, also of special meeting held on 20th April, were read and confirmed. Conespondence : A circular letter was read from the Sydenham Borough Council (Christchurch), requesting the co- operation oftheßoardin endeavouring to get the Government to give effect to the following resolution passed by that Council : — "That in the opinion of this Council it is desirable in the interests of the ratepayers, that the Government should endeavour to pass during the next session of Parliament, a Ratepayers Mutual Insurance Bill, empowering local bodies upon the security of their rates to insure against loss by fire, the properties within theirrespective boundaries." Com Ebert said, seeing no copy of the proposed Bill had been sent for the consideration of the Board, it might not be advisable to support it until they had seen it, and moved : That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Sydenham Borough Council, and get further particulars respecting the Bill they were asked to support, and that the Board decline to take any action in the matter until these particulars have been received. Seconded by Com Gallagher and carried. Road Repairs : The Chairman stated that the road repairs leading to Messrs Currie and Guilding's premises ("which matter had been left in the hands of the Works Committee at last monthly meeting) bad been attended to ; also that he had asked Mr Pavitt, Engineer to the Board, to furnish an estimate as to the probable cost of repairing road and laying: down pipes in Bridge-street, near Mr C. Johnson's. Mr Pavitt was present, and said he had inspected the road mentioned by the Chairman, and estimated the cost of repairing same at £9. [The road in this place is one that badly requires being attended to, as during very wet weather it is often times almost impassable. 1 ] Referred to Works Committee. j Defaulting -Ratepayers : Xhe Clerk j stated- he had posted up a '"notice to the effect that the. Ratepay rs and Defaul-, ters Rolls ,were now open for inspection at, his office; ' ' . ' ! Gravelling Footpaths : Resolved on the motion of Com Ebert, seconded by Com Gallagher, That tenders be called for gravelling the footpaths in Whi taker street, the time for accepting the tenders to be left in the hands of the Works Committee. The Chairman, state 1 that a small contract had jbeen let for filling up the hole just above the Bank, for the sum of #2: - -' ■" Accounts : The following accounts were passed for payment: W. Hetheringlon, £1 19s 6d ; R. Michael, £7 7s '; M. Hotchin, 5s ; J. Dare, 18s ; W. Thomson, £17 19s ; payment of Thom Ispn's account to' be held over until the Engineer's certificate-had been obtained. This was all the business, ,
