KARANGAHAKE. [From our own Correspondent.]
Karangahake, Monday. Crown G. M. Co : The contractors for the low level crosscut in this Company's mine are making capital headway, having gpt through the hard bar, they are now in a good sandstone country which looks well for gold. The winze from No. Ito No. 2 levol is completed thereby opening up a block of over 80 feet in readiness for stoping. At the battery, the framewoik to carry the machinery is all but finished and two of the Lamberton grind ing' "mills are in positian. Capt Coward informs me that he hopes to have" a turn out of the machinery in font weeks, Cassol G. and S. Extracting Company : The framework for the main building for this Company's plant is. in a forward state, the contractor (Mr OBrien), -is pushing on the work, and" hopes to have it completed by the flrst of June, but this will depend upon the weather, as it is impossible to draw timber down the sledge track in wet weather. Mr Dickey has four or five teams on the road every day, but there are still 40,000 or 50,000 feet of timber, beeides pipes, bolts, and tanks, to be taken on the ground. This Company seems to have every confidence in their process, judging by the buildings they are erecting, which are of the most substantial character. Over one hundred thousniivi feet of limber wilj be necessary to complete them. The main working shed is 172 foet long and 32 feet wide roofed with corrugated iron ; the uplights ard beams 12 x 10 heart nfkuuri ; the beams to carry the tanks 15 x 12 1 Two rows of tanks with tramway between and pipes leading into the tanks, in which the powdered ore is to be treated (with the solution for which the Com-
pany have secured the patent) is all "that lean learn respecting the Oassel process. Mr Mclntire, the Oassel Company's Manager in Queensland, and Mr Melville, Managing Director of the Crown Mines Company, are here on a visit of inspection just now. Kenilworth (Shepherd's Tribute) : Four men are employed in this section of the mine, driving from the bottom of the winze. I have not seen any of the stuff trietl lately, but I believe it prospects very well , Moore's Tiibnte: Two men are at work breaking 1 out quaitz whioh they intend to crush at the Christchurch Company's new plant. Mr Loughry's Tribute : This party have four men at work, ami are driving a level to open up a block of stoping. Woodslock : Messrs Loughty and Comes' Tribute : Some weeks ngo a tribute was let to this party to be held from month to month. I hear that they have received a months notice to quit, and that the Company have the mine under offer to an Knglish syndicate, Ivanhoe and Truro i Eight men are at work in this mine, anil the battery is kept constantly at work one shift. Ivanhoe Battery ; Mr Littlejohn has eight head going on Woodstock ore (Heitman's tribute), it is shaping fora good return. } Mr Littlejohn completed the survey of the proposed new road on Saturday, but whether anything further will be done in tho matter is doubtful.
