Lawry was moved to the chair : and opened the meeting by reading the printed ins 1 ructions sent. l>y the Board of Education with lespect to the mode of proeeduie. A? Secretary of the outgoing d>m mittee, the Chairman next read the annual leport and balance sheet for the past year. The report was of. a very satisf ictory character, and showed that the attendance had veiy greatly increased during the year, a fourth teacher had also b°en recently appo'nted. The Inspectors report of annual standard examinations was also read, and proved very sitisfnctoty. A credit balance at date of £3 11s 9d was reported. The report and b-ilance-sheet ■ were unanimously adop'ed a1?a 1 ? read. The nomination of candidates wa<? next proceeded with, Mr J. W. R. Guilding, on the motion of Mr Pyno, being appointed Secretary for the occasion. The following ton candidates were | nominated :— J. Ilott, proposed by J. Lavery, seconded by W, Hetharington ; C. Ahiei, by C. S. P.yne and Robt Mackie ; A Monzie, by J. Heathcoteand j Rev g. Liwry, by S. L Hirst, and J. Clarke *, J. Lavery, by J. F. Cocks and J. 11. .tb ;J. B. Heathcot*, by Robt, Mackie, and R. Michael ; F. O'Toole, by J. F. Cods, and M. Hotchin ; J. Armit, by Jas. Clarke and M. Hotchin ; C. S. Pync.byM. Hotchin and C, Ahier ; Robt. Mackie, by J. Wallace and J. F. Cocks. Messrs Hirst. Cochrane, Han is, Ebert, Guild ing*, Cocks, and others were also nominated, but declined to stand. Messr3 Bluck and Ebert were appointed scrutineers ; anil the election n suited as follows :—: — Ilott, J. 85 votes ; Ahier, C. 60 ; Menzies, A. 85 ; Lawry, Rev S. 23 ; Lavery, J. 22 ; Henthcote, J, B. 21 ; O'Toole, F. 18 ; Armit, J. 18 ; Mackie, Robfc. 7 ; Pyne, C. S. 5. Informal voting papers, 4. There being a tie for seventh place, the Chiarman had to , exercise his casting* vote ; and said he would give it in Mr Armit's favour, solely on the grounds that having such a large family, he ought to he particularly interested in matters relating to the public school. The proceedings were brought to a close by a hearty vote of thanks being passed to the Chairman for presiding. The first meeting of the newly elected Committee for the lection of Chairman, was held immediately afterwards in the school room. On the motion of Mr Ilotfc, seconded by MrHeathcote, Rev S. Lawry was voted to the chair pro torn. Mr Heathcole proposed that Mr Ahier be elector! Chairman of Committee" for the ensuing year ; seconded by Mr Armit.- '' " • ' ' Mr Hod juoposed'ns an amendment, that iiev S. Lawry be elected Chairman ; seconded by Mr Lavery. On being put to the meeting Messrs
llotfc and La very voiad in favour of the amendment, and only Mr Aimit nsrainsfc ; the original motion was negatived, and liev S. Lawiy elected. On the raction of Mr Lavery, seconded by Mr llotfc, Mr Menzie was u,nanunoua)y elected Secretary. It was resolved that the ordinary monthly meeting of Committee be held on the fi, # st Monday evening in each month, at half-past seven (same as last yeai).
