Wellington, Apiil 15 Tiih following agricultural returns are ready :—: — TARANAKI. Wheat, 2,675 acres, 13,753 bushels ; oats, 3,260 acres, 128,297 bushels ; barley, 356 acres, 11,454 bushels; potatoes, 890 acres, 5,153 tons: hay, 3,296 acres, 4,738 tons. HAWKE'S BAY. Wheat, , 96s acreB, 28,605 bushels; oats, 5,141 acres, 147,371 bushels ; bar'ey, 3,462 acres, 154,307 bushels ; potatoes, 2,409 acres, 9,630 tons ; hay, 7,588 acres 10,291 tons. MATiLBOftOUGH. Wheat, 5,077 acres* 124,124 bushels ; oats, 3,691 acres, 114,839 bushels ; barley, 6,321 acres, ]43,374 bushels ; potatoes, 699 acres, 4,371 tons; hay, 855 acres, 1,321 tons. NELSON. Wheat, 4,625 acres, 101,329 bushels ; oats, 3,143 acres, 82,428 bushels; barley, 6,383 acres, 132,656 bushels ; potatoes, 195 acres, 5,699 tons ; hay, 2,626 acres, 3,336 tons. OTAC4O. Besides these, the following acreage was under oats for preen foodorhay: — Taranaki, 565 ; Hawke's Bay, 1,329 ; Marlborough, 2,070 : Nelson, 6,241 ; Otago, 38,100. Auckland and Wellington returns are not complete. With regard to the statement that the estimates are much below the real yield, the officers of the department say they have no proof of its truth, and though very heavy yields have been ob'ained from favoured localities, nothing has come to their knowledge ,|io indicate that the published figures are far. removed from the truth. In Otago the collectors have „ delayed sending in the returns on purpose to airive at as accurate an estimate as possible.
