Auckland, April 13. Mr Alkx. Aitken's Market Report for the week ending April 13.— The past week has been a. busy one. All kinds of farm produce have been received in lirge quantity, and have been quickly quitted at late values. The supply of poultry has been the lirgost received for many weeks; values unchanged. Turkeys were entered in unusually large numbers: allso d fairly well. Pigs in good numbors ; no improvement in demand. Potatoes also coming forward freely; quality in many cases poor, demand good, values unchanged. Onions scarce; prices still high. Pumpkins are easier in value. Grain: Fair supply; values unchanged. Melons and vegetables: Supply large; fair values obtained. .Butter: Fresh in fair supply ; values unchanged. First-class corned butter is in demand for shipment, but none coming forward. Eggs in increased supply ; values a trifle easier. Bacon and hams in good supply ; demand for first-class only. Cheese in good supply ; values unchanged. Honey is wanted. Stocks light in iruit. The supply has been the largest received this season, and, considering the veiy larcrc quantity to hand, fair values have ruled. Tno supply of apples have been in excess of the demand, consequently i rices have been no oetter. In pears many large lots of poor kinds have come in; those, although low, have not aftected the prices of good kinds. Lemons : Few ( to hand ; values unchanged. Quinces Increased supply ; quality first-class ; good prices ' obtained. Grapes: None to hand. Peaches in good supply, good values obtained. Tomatoes : ; Large quantity to hand, prices low. Plums ; ■ Fair supply, values unchanged. Damsons : Few to hand, fair values obtained. Three sales by . auction at the new mart have been held, all , well attended, and a large amount of busines doneateach. J Messrs Arthur axd Bud dle's Weekly Retort.—There has been an unsatisfied demand for most kinds of produce Producers will act j wisely by not holding back, there is no prospect i of any advance in price. Sydney market is being supplied fioni the South and other parts, prices are very fluctuating. Fruichas come to i hand in very large quantities, particularly < apples and pears, therefore there has been no ; improvement in prices. Soft kinds are pretty < well done. Lemons have come to hand in lai ge ; quantity, some were small, prices did not aver- ] age so high as of late. A few cases of walnuts to ( hand. Cape gooseberries sold well. The supply ] of poultry was large. Fowls brought about last week's prices ; turkeys and ducks did not sell quite so high. A good number 1 of pigs were entered ; many were small; the 1 demand not so great as the previous week. ; Eight sales have been held this week, four of I household furniture and effects. On Monday, 1 at the residence of Mr Hindley. Tennyson- - street, Surrey Hills: Tuesday at the residence 1 of Mr W. Clucas. Pitt-street; Wednesday at : the mart ; and Thursday at a private residence, 1 Crummer Road, Surrey Hills, at which there - was a crowded attendance, and tirst-class prices ■* were realised. One of drapery, clothing, etc., "i at the mart on Monday, when a fair amount of business wasdone. Three for poultry, produce, groceries, fruit, etc., at the mart on Tuesday. Messrs C. E. Paget and Co. report as follows :— ln the matter of supplies and sales of all classes of produce, the past week has been quite up to any previous one. Large supplies of pota toes have come to hand, but this as yet has not affected th 9 price of good samples. Onions are still scarce, and remain at about former quotations. Pumpkins arc coming in more freely, and are somewhat lower in price. .W arrows, melons and other vegetab'es are low in price, andthedemandisbutlimited. Grain valuesare unchanged. Fruit has been in smaller supply, and has sold freely at good prices. Cheese is in slightly better demand, but remained at last we -k's quotations. Hams and bacon of prime quality have sold freely, and prices show a slight improvement. A bet er demand exists for both fresh and canned butters, at last week's values. Poultry was in fair supply, but no alterations in value have taken place. Messrs Alfred Bcckland & Sons' Weekly Report.— At the Haymarket during the past week prices for fodder have ranged from 2s 6d to 3s 9d the cwt. showing an advance of about Is the cwt over prices lately ruling. Grain has also risen in value. Oa'B in wholesale parcels have ranged from 2s 4d co 2d lOd ; maize, 3s '2d to 3s 6d per bushel ; potatoes, £4 10s per ton. There has also been a good demand for manures and seeds at late values. On Friday, at the Haymarket. horses were yarded in full number, and had a brisk sale. Heavy draught ranged from £12 103 to £14 103 ; medium draught and strong riding horses from £8 to £18; ponies and inferior horses from £1 to £5 each; a spring cart, £7; set harness, £5 10s. On Tuesday hides and skins were in full number and good demand. Sound ox hides ranged 3gdto sd; cow hides, 2£d to 3id; calf skins, 4d to 43d the lb ; tallow, 14s the cwt ; bones, £4 13s the ton ; lamb skins, Is 4d to 2s Id : relts. 6d to 3s 4d each. At Waiuku the clearing-out sale of Mrs Browning's stock occasioned a full market. There was a numerous attendance, and good prices throughout. At Remuera. on Thursday, dairy cattle kept the advance noted last week. Prices for useful cattle near calving ranged from £4 10s to £7 7s ; store cattle were also better worth ; a pair of three-year-old steers in low condition brought £2 14s ; cows forward in calf, from £2 5s to £3 ss ; fat cattle, prices something irregular, but on the whole last week's quotations— from 10s to 12s for cows. 13s to 15s for oxen— were fully kept ; calves plentiful ; those well fatted sold at an advance; inferior dull of sale; fat sheep, in usual numbers were firm ; 200 2-tooth wethers averaged lls ;'3OO aged wethers, 138 each; ewes. 7s tolls 6d each ; pigs, In usual numbers, were at late values. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report. -Seeds, grain, horsefeed: Tierie"vind for seed and grain has beea active, Oata have continued in brisk demand, and we cleared all
the lots placed in our hands. Seeds hare been slow of Balt\ but chaff and pressed hay wore in more request, and there remained nn unsatisfied demand for good clover hay for export. Wo quote: Short feed oats, 3s; dun, 2s 8cl; 'lartarian, 2s 2d to 2s 6d por bushel : cocksfoot. 5s to 6s per bushel ; ryegrass, 5s to 6s per bushel ; bonedust, £6 5s to £7 5s per ton ; carrots. £1 15s i per ton. Horses: Ihe demand has been steady, and good animals found puichasers. Good hacks and light harness horses sold relatively higher than other descriptions. There was a fair muster at the Durham Yards on Friday. Competition was good, and some \\ ell-bred riding horses sold at from £25 to £40, while weed y hacks barely fetched £4 ; light harness horses, from £7 to £15 10s; pair buggy horses. £35. Wool, hides, skins, and tallow Average quantities were pitched at the Durham Yards on Tuesday,and there was a. spirited demand for all the lots oilered. We quote: Heavy ox, 4d to4]d; medium, Zd to 3*d ; cow, 2d to 2}A ; calfskins, 4d to 4jd per lb ; sheepskins, Is 5d to 3s 3d each ; crossbred wool, 7id ; tallow, lls to] 4s 6d. Cattle: Activity has characterised tho market. The supply has been an average one, and thcro has been an advance in tho value ot fat beasts ; "'her desci'iptionb remained unaltered The N y i.:u.'t Yards were moderately filled on mo^day, and there was brisk bidding for wellconditioned stock in all classes. The muster at Pukekohe on Wednesday was good, and cential market rates ruled. Wo quote: Dairy cows, at from £4 to £6 ; dry cows, from £1 7s 6d to £2 10s ; calves, from 10s 6d to 16s 6d ; yearlings, from 18s to 27s 6d : 18 months old steers, £1 12s 6d to£l 17s 6d : grown steers, £2 Is to £2 7s 6d ; fat steers, from 13s to 15s per 1001b, some avi'iagcs of which were: £4 17s 6d. £5 2s 6d, £5 4s, £5 10s, £5 18s, £6 15s ; cows, £3 2s, £3 11s 3d, £4 2s 6d. Sheep: The Newmarket pens were not nearly filled on Tuesday, and theiM was a brislc demand for wethers at fiom 11s to 14s 9d. kwes were not in corresponding request, but ranged from 9s to 11s 6d ; lambs, 6s 60. Pigs : There were a good many yarded at Newmarket, and competition was brisk. Prices varied considerably, ranging from 2d to 3d per lb livo weight. Mkssrs G. W. Binnky a>d Sons' Report. — A full catalogue of hides, skins, etc., were oilercd, and all lots were cleared at satisfactory prices. Heavy hides were in demand.
