MANURiAL VALUE OF A TON OF MILK.

Thk amount of fertility lo&t to a farm by soiling all the milk to be consumed or utilized off tho land is an important matter too seldom considered by our farmers, or they would bo more anxious about getting back their separated milk from tho factories. We clip tbo following as to the value of manure lost by sending away off the farm the whole milk, instead of only the butter or tho cream and using tho skim-milk as feed. The following tablo explains the matter, showing the number of pounds of the principal elements of plant food in one ton of milk, cream, &c. : —

The table shows that when a ton of bufcber is sold oft' tho farm, the farm is robbed of only half-a-crown's woifch of plant food ; bub when a ton of cheese is sold tho farm is robbed of over £4 3s 4d worth of plant iood. Each ton of milk contains as much nitrogen, phosphoric acid, and potash as would cost about 11s 6d in the form of commercial fertilisers.
