MINING NEWS. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.
Thames, March 9g. Cambria. — The mine manager reports that the leader cut in the crosscut at No. 4 level yesterday is about 6 inches thick, and shows good mineral through the quartz. This leader is running in a soubhern direction, and dipping westerly. The country is splendid white sandstone with black mineral veins, and is everything that could be desired tor gold. ■ New Moanataiari,— -The lead in the' winze at No 3. level was again broken down to-day. It is not looking quite' so well, there being a scarcity of the good mineral through tho stone. This was caused by a flab band of softer ground coming in from the hangingwall. A few colours of I gold were however seen, and the ground appears to be making all right again underneath this soft; baud. The drive at No. 4 level has now advanced 30ft through the reef. To-day there was sandstone showing in the back of the drive, which, I- am in hopes, is the hangingwall. The quartz has improved considerably in appearance during the last day or two. I have not been able bo get the trial parcel through bhe single stamper yet bub will start on it to-morrow. — G. S. Clark. Royal Oak Mine (Coromandel).— For the past week f-.hore is nothing new to report from the mine, although there have been favourable indications at each break down. At present the reef is large throughout and rather broken down owing to the wall not being solid. The reef going east is more solid and better looking which will be broke down by the end ot tho week. The tributers driving and rising on differentreefs without getting anything. The ground is rather broken. — Peter Reid.
