Messi-3 Stock and Conroys br q Salisbury, 6yrs, 7at 61b (Lindsay) 1 Mr Paula Foxton, 3yrs, 6sfc 121b (Collello) 2 Mr Tancred's br h Cupid, 4yrs, 7sb (Poulson) 3 Leopold, Silence, Audacity, Leander, Lenoie, Richmond, Kotuku, and Marama also started. This was the surprise of the day, Salisbury being hardly mentioned in the betting, Leopold and Audacity being warm favourites. Foxton entered the straight with a slight lead from Cupid, who had Salisbury at his girths. The v hips were now out on all, and Salisbury, struggling on, gained inch by inch on the leader, and eventually wore him down, winning on the post by a bare head, Cupid half a length away, third. Time, 2min. 13 2-sth sec. Dividends, £24 10s and £35 10s. Hanjoicai* Seizing Rack of 40sovs. One mile. Mr Martin's q q Soudan, 6yrs, 9st (Vaile) 1 Mr Dennett's eh h Bronte, 4yrs, 7st lib 2 Mr Bobbett's br c Patchwork, 3yrs, 7sb 71b 3 Orwell and The Moor also started. Won by a length. Time, lmin 4 4-sth sec. Dividends, £4 3s and £3 12s. The winner was bought in at £70. Wavbklev Stakks Handicap of lOOsovs; six furlongs. Mr Gollans eh c Jet d'Bau, 3yrs, 6st 101b (Peters) 1 Mr Beresford's b h Escutcheon, 4yrs, Bsb 61b(Kean 2 Mr Hepburn's eh q Audacity, syrs, Bst 81b (F. Stowe) ... 3 Leander, Kotuku, Kariri, Turihau, Tennyson, and Dauphin also started. Won by fully four lengths. Escutcheon and Audacity fought out a stern battle foi second honours, which Escutcheon secured by a head. Turihau was fourth. Time, lmin. 17 4-s?ec. The result was received by the public with groans on account of the difference in form shown by the winner to-day and at Hastings last week. Dividends, £13 16s and £19 10s.
