KARANGAHAKE.
[From our own Correspondent.] Crown. — Railey's battery (now the property of the Crown Co.), is rapidly disappearing, having to be removed to make room for the Lamberton Grinding Mills, about to be erected. The timber for the framing required is being sawn some distance up the Waitawlieta river, and floated down to the battery site, by means of the water-race, at a small cost. The Manager expects to have the plant in working order by the end of June, In the mine sinking and rising on the main lode is being proceeded with. When the two levels are connected an extensive block of ground will be ready for sloping. Cassel Gold Extracting Co. : This Company's Manager is pushing on the works with all speed, the cottages being built for the accommodation of the staff will be ready for occupation by the end of next week. A contract has been let to Mr C. S.

Adeline : This Company's mine is shut down, ond I hear they have applied for protection. Kenil worth. — Shepherd's Tribute : Two men are at work bailing out the winze preparatory to sinking another block. I^anhoe and Trnro : The Company's battery is kept going steadily on payable stuff from their own mine. White and party (tributers), have had a trial crushing of 11 tons, which was hardly payable. There is a good deal of prospecting going on, but, so far, with very poor results. Mr Dickey has four teams on the road, carting for the Crown and Cassel Companies. The building material for the Cassel Company's plant is being carted from Wttitekauri The machinery has been landed at Paeroa, and will be carted on to the site within the next few days.
