TB AROHA JOCKEY CLUB.

A meeting of the above Club was held on Saturday evening last. Present : Messrs Mills (chairman), Pavitt (secretary), Bradley, Brennan, and Wiseman The mi' utes of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed. The Secretary read the report and balance-sheet as follows : — Receipts, £140 13s 51; expenditure, £125 3d; balance in hand, £15 13s2d. Mr H. Brindle's Forfeit : In reference to this matter it appears that Mr Brindl<> lodged a protest against Ocean Bird, winner of the Maiden Race, on the ground that the horse had won races prior to the Te Aroha meeting, but at the time could not produce sufficient evidence to substantiate the protest. Since then, however, evidence has appeared '-hat Ocean Bird had won races prior to the Te Aroha meeting, and was not therefore qualified to run in the Maiden Race, On the motion of Mr Wiseman, seconded by Mr Bradley, it was resolved to return the £1, protest money, to Mr Brindle. Foul Riding : Mr McNicol sent a request through the Secretary to have the riders of Dandy, Fawn, and Owharoa, disqualified frcm ever riding at any future | races to be held in Te Aroha. This was in consequence of their actions in the Trot Race at the late meeting. After some discussion the matter was adjourned until a full meeting of the Club, when the question will be fully considered. The following accounts were passed : H. Brindle, £1 ;J. Wood, £1. Waikato Times, £3 13s 6d ; Te AicoHA and Ohinemurt News, £7 8s 6d ; G. Deverill, 6s ; O. McCabe, L 3 ; — Collins, Bs. On the motion of Mr Bradley, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Pavitt for his services as Secretary to the Club, Mr Pavitt briefly returned thanks and the meeting closed.

Among the passengers by the s.s. Aorangi from London, and which arrived at Wellington on Sunday last, was the Rev ChuilcvS Spurge'm, pastor of the Baptist Chnroh, Greenwich, and twin brother of th» j ttev i'homns Spurgpon, of Auckland. A reception soiree will be given to him at the Auckland Tabernacle to-morrow evening, at which several of the city ininj.stois will give addresses.
