The County Council recently applied to the Minister of Mines for a grant of £2,000 towards renewing the water-raoe-with 30-inch mains. The Hon G, Fl Richardson has replied stating that the matter will be i submitted for consideration by the Government, but he point* out that there is no power to grant the request without a special vote of Pkrlia^ment. He also adds r "It may not be out of place for me to express my opinion that though the County now seem desirous of prudently administering: their revenue, it must be borne in mind that had the receipts from the sales ot water been set asi le as they should have been, there would now have been amplefunds available for the renewal of the race."
