The second day of the V.R.C. Autumn Meeting was a close and muggy one. Rain fell about noon, and caused a falling off in the attendance. Won easily. Time, 2min. 12^sec. Sires' Produce Stakes, of lOsovs, added to 250sovs from the Victoria Racing Club, and a subscription of 25sovs each from owners of twenty-seven sires. For two-year-olds. Colts, Bst 101b ; fillies, Bst 71b; geldings allowed 31b. Six furlongs. Mr J. O'Loughlan's bl c Richelieu, by Richmond — Miss Harriott (Power) .. 1 Hon. J. White's eh f Spice, by ChesterCinnamon (Hales) .. 2 Chintz; ... ... ... ... 3 These were the only starter?. Betting : 7 to 2 on Spice, 5 to 1 against Richelieu and Chintz. The favourite spi'awled all over the course at the start, and was eventually defeated easily by two lengths. Time, lmin 19sec. Australian Cup, a handicap sweepstakes of 20sovs each, with l,ooosovs added. For three-year-olds and upwards. The second horse to receive 200sovs, and the third horse lOOsovs out of the stakes. Betting : 6 to 4 against Lochiel, 5 to 1 Carlyon, 8 to 1 Carbine, 10 to 1 Recall, 12 to 1 Cyclops. Recall jumped away with the lead, followed by Theorist and Lochiel. After a furlong had been traversed, the latter took command, Carlyon being last. Along the river the positions were : Lochiel, Theorist, Recall, and Cyclops, with Carlyon still last. Passing the abattoirs, Lochiel was two lengths ahead of Cyclops, with Recall a length away, and Carbine fourth. These places were unchanged till entering the stiaight, where Hales made a forward move on Carlyon, but committed the error of trying to come up next the rails. Carbine also made a great run, but failed to get nearer than second. At the bottom of the carriage paddock, however, he again struggled to improve his position, but Clifford had the race in hand, and stalling him off in the final rush, won from Carbine by three parts of a length. Recall and Cyclops, four lengths away, made a dead heat of it for third place, followed by Carlyon, Tradition, Theorist Chaldean, Whakawai, and Bravo in that order. Time, 4min 9isec. The Bourice Handicap, of ssovs each, lftt with 300sovp added. Second 60sovs, third 30sovs. Seven furlongs. Mr A. Davies's eh c Pakeha, 4yrs, Bst 111b (A. Campbell) . . . . 1 Mr S. G. Cook's eh f The Charmer, 4yrs, Bsfc lib (O'Neill) 2 Mr J. Marshall's br f Pearl Shell, 3yrs (OBrien) .... 3 There were seventeen starters. Bet" ting : 5 to 2 against Russley (who finished fifth), 4 to 1 Pakeha, 6 to 1 Stella and Sinecure, 10 to 1 the rest. Pakeha came from the extreme rear in the last furlong and won by half a length.
