TE AROHA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of tho above Committee was held on Monday evening. Present : Rev J. Mars ha- 11 (chairman), Rev S. La wry (secretary). Messrs Ilott, Lipsuy, Menzie, Healhcote, ar.d Mackie. Minutes of the previous monthly and also of special meeting were read and confirmed. The head teacher in his report stated that owing to the increased attendance the following new furniture was required : 6 desks, 1 table, 1 chair, 1 stool, 24 ink wells. The Chairman was authorised to sign a requisition to the Board of Education for those articles. The number of pupils on the roll for month of Februaty was 182 ; average attendance 143.7 ; the highest attendance on any one day 164, The head teacher reported that the water tanks were empty, anil considerable inconvenience experienced thereby through want of water ; also that his own well had gone dry and required deepening. It was resolved that the Secretary write to the Board of Education with respect to this matter, asking tho Board to authorise the deepening of the well in the school grounds. The head teacher reported that the fol-, lowing were entitled to good attendance, certificates : Waldo (Smith, Fred C. Bluck, Maud Bluck, all in class 1, for having been present every time school was opened, both morning and afternoon, during year ending 31st, 1888. Earnest Baker, Class 2, for not being absent more than five times during same period. The following wua tho average attendance for the month of February :— First week, No. on roll 180, average, 140.2 ; second week, No, on roll 180, average 137.7 ; third week, No. on roll 183, average 146.5 ;fourth week, No. on roll 182, average 1512. The following accounts wen; passed for payment : Mrs Griffiths, £3 IDs ; J. Williams, 3s Bd. The half yearly capitation allowance of £10 was repotted to have come to hand. , On the motion of Mr Ilott the Chainrrtn and Mr Hnathcore were appointed a Visits ing Committee for the current month, with instructions to take such steps as they mighc consider advisable with respect to WiitcM 1 supply.
