MESSAGE FROM REWI MANIAPOTO. COUNSEL ENGAGED FOR THE DEFENCE.
The movements of Te Kooti and also the pioceedings ot the (I o\ eminent with leferenco to the ex rebel seem to be of the greatest inteicst to the native race, especially in the Waikato, where Te Koobi and a select band of his adherents have been sheltered for several yeai\s past. The Kingite natives are evidently »vcll posted up in the piogicss of events, and judgidg by a communication received in town to-day, it would appear that they fully anticipate the arrest oi Te Kooti on the warrant issued by the Government charging him with causing an unlawful usspmblage, calculated to cieato a bieach of the peace. The oomnuinication we lefer to was a telegiam leceived from I'ewi Maniapoto, by Air YV. J. Nap : er, solicitor, instiuctino- the latter bo defend Te Kooti in any action that may be bt ought against him. This communication indicates a willingness on the pai t of Itewi to have the lawfulness of Te Kooli s action fairly tiied by a magistrate, and to give the rebel whatever benefit may be obtained from the advice of an able solicitor.
