The Tanranga Athletic Sports took place in the Domainjan the 31st ult.,. ami were most successful both from a pecuniary and sporting point of view ;. the only matter for regret was the breakdown of the Tanner-Ellesmere match,, through the non appearance of the latter. The Tnuranga Handicap in three heats, brought a large fit-Id, including Pickering fiom Auckland, Tanner's trainer. A lad named Walter Robinson was the winner and received 13yds, 18yds, and 24yds in the 100 yds, 220 yds and 440 yds respectively from Pickering, the scratch man. The tilting at the ring drew a field of 23 and created a great deal of interest, one competitors horse having so great a repugnance to galloping that he had to be ohased up th,e course by another ridei and prodded with* Ms lance all the way The winner was B. Jordan with a scor< of four rings out of a possible nine. . The weather, which bas held uj splendidly for the bulk ok the harvesting operations, has now broken up, am after threatening far two o? three days there has came a steady soakinj rain, which will be a great reviver fo the burnt up pastures. Immense quantities of peaches -an other fruit nrp being exported from he! this year, the peaches being unusuall fine and plentiful.
