THAMES. [From our own Correspondent.] Thames, Monday.

Extensive preparations are being made for the united demonstration to be held at Parawai on Easter Monday in connection with the various Friendly Societies. Amongst other attractions there will be an athletic sports gathering, the principal events being : Maiden Race, 120 yds; Demonstration Handicap, in three heats, 440, 300, and 150 yards, prizes £10, £3, and £2 ; Hurdle Race, 440 yds j Half-mile Handicap, and Mile Handicap, prizes, £7, £2, and £1. It is expected that several entries will be received from Te Aroha and Auckland* A young man named William Dufty, whose parents reside at Parawai, has been arrested on a charge of stealing a 1 horse, valued at. £3, the property of Hore Matene, of Kopu. The trial of the accused will be proceeded with ! tc-day. As the result of the dispute that has i arisen between the Waitemata and Thames champion whaleboat crews regarding the umpire upholding the protest of the latter and awarding them the first prize of L5O, a match has been s arranged between the two crews for L5O aside. It will be rowed at the Thames on Saturday next about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, as it is high water on that day at 12 59 pan. Great interest is , taken hero in the event, as the contest is expected fo be very close. Heavy rain fell on Friday night and Saturday, which will do an incalculable amount of good, as it has provided an ample supply of water for motive ami domestic purposes. The batteries arenow running full time again. Operations in the New Moanatairi G» and S. Co.'s mine are to be at once commenced upon a big scale. With the consent of the Cambria Co., the drive at that Company's No. 4 level is to be continued on the hangin°wall portion of the lode until the cross reef is met with, when the latter will be driven on up to the main slide. Werk will also be prosecuted at the Cambria No. 3 level, and the Moanatairi main tunnel cleaned out and repaired, so as to work some reefs known to exist in the Point Russell and Golden Age sections. The Saxon G.M. Co.'s mine continues to be our principal gold producer,, and although the quartz has scarcely shaped so well the last few days, the fortnightly cleaning up this afternoon should be a good one, and enable another 6d dividend to be declared. The drive at No. 5 level is not yet quite through the "break,/' but the reef should be intersected about the end of the present week. Crushing is proceeding for the Waic-* tahi and New Manakau mine 3, from both of which payable returns are expected, while the Cambria and New Albumin are breaking out quartz, oE remunerative grade.
