Lepper, Church-street, Devonport ; Tuesday, at the residence of Mr G. Veale, Karaka - street, Newton ; Thursday, at the residence of Mr Edward Parsons, Taraar Villa, Symonds-street ; and on Wednesday, at the mart. Those at the private houses were well attended, particularly so the one on Thursday, and first-class prices were realised. The one at tho mart was not so well attended, and prices ruled in favour of the buyer. Pianos sold at £16 15s to £20 each. One for drapery, clothing, &c, at the mart on Monday. A good assorted lot ot stuff was offered. A quantity sold at low prices. Many lines had to be passed. Three for poultry, produce, fruit, groceries, &c, at the mart, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The whole have been largely attended. Competition has been brisk, and first-class prices have been realised. Produce of good quality : most kinds are in first-class demand, the supply not being equal. Fruit of all kinds has come to hand in large quantity (over 1,000 cases). All has met with splendid competition, and sold at prices averaging higher than last week's. We would again urge growers to exercise the greatest care in picking, packing, and sorting ; so much depends upon it. A few small, inferior, or partly rotten will greatly affect the price, and the style and size of the packages have much to do with the price. There was a large supply of fowls, mostly hens and young ones; the demand was very limited, and they sold at lower prices than we remember ever before. A fair supply of ducks ; these sold a little better, but still prices ruled low. Only a few geese ; no turkeys entered. Very few pigs ; there wasnot much demand. The following are the highest and lowest prices obtained :— Fowls, lOd to 2s; chicks, 2d to Is eaoh; hen and chicks, 18 8d to 2s Id; ducks, Is to Is 4d; ducklings, 9d each ; muscovies. Mr Alexander Aitken's Market Report for the week ending January 26 :— Business brisk in all lines. Large quantities of all kinds of produce have come to hand, most of which has found ready sale. Potatoes have been in further increased supply. All ripe Hobarts in sacks found private buyers for export, but those in small bags have sold at lower pricea at auction. The demand for kidneys is falling off, and only Hobarts are asked for. Seed onions have been in good demand for export, but none have been wanted for local consumption. Potato onions will not sell, except atlow prices. The supply of seed onions, although large, is not equal to requirements. Vegetables are low. Grain is quiet. Chaff, no sq.lo. Poultry has oome forward freely, and supply has been in excess of demand, consequently prices have not ruled high. Pigs : Large supplies of second class breeds; prices easier. Bacon and hams have moved more freely, at fair values. Cheese is quiet. A large quantity of second class quality has been cleared. Butter : Fresh has improved in price, and supply has been larger. Eggs have also improved m value. Corned butter is quiet, and sells only for pastry use, for which the demand is small. Fruit has been in unusually large supply. Plums have sold well, btit small apples ruled low. Pears realised fair values, juemons are much wanted.
