Champion Gr. and 8. Mines, Limited : The mino manager reports as follows : — Work is proceeding sati-f.ictorily in all (.he four contracts lecently let for opening up this Company's trround. In No. ), the con trie tor (W. Corncs), cnt the reef on Wednesday last, after driving a distance of about. 110 feet, the country passed through being of a very favourable character. In No, 2 contract; (C. Gordon), sinking the winze is being pushed ahead with three shifts, and ore of vciy excellent quality is being broken out, being rich in both gold and silver. In No. 3 contract (W. Corner), driving on the reef is progressing both north and south, and here also stone of really srood quality is being met with and bioken out. In No. 4 (P. Dillons) contract, the reef is very large, being from 8 feet to 10 feet wide, and diiving northeast on the line of reef is in pi ogress, the country generally being very favourable. The contractor is now within twenty feet fiom where the winze ("now being sunk by uoidon and party, No 2 contract), should hole thiongh. This drive when completed will constitute the main outlet for all woikings above this level. No, 5 contract, for sinking winze 105 feet, for which tenders are now invited, will, when connected with tho other lower level, open up close on five hundred feet of ( backs.' Tenders are also now invited for No. 0 contract, for erection of Manugar's house (to include assay room, laboratory, etc.), and for the trestle work of the teriol tramway. Generally the prospects of this Company's mine have greatly improved as work has been proceeded with and the mine opened up. Ruakaka L, Hd. : The mine manager informs us that sinking is bonier continued on th^ recent find in the Mikado portion of the ground ; and good silver bearing stone is being obtained as sinking progresses. Driving has been reFumed in the drive first started on No. 3 reef, mid within the last day o>- two ore of ve.iy good quality has been obtained from this lode,
