Messrs Akthur and Buddles, Weekly Report.—Nothing of /particular importance note this week. ' There have, been several sales by auction held. Monday and Thursday : of drapery and clothing at the mart, a fair amount of business done; bidding languid; prices in favour of tho buyer. Tuesday : Sale of household furniture aud effects at the'-resi-denco ot Mr W. F. Hoffmann, SentmeL.Road. Ponsonby. There was a large attendance, and upon the whole prices were satisfactory' Wednesday : Sole of household furniture and effects, piano, etc, at- the vi.art. The attendance' was bmalier than usual ; competition was not brisk ; pi'ices ruled low. Tuesday, Thursday andt Friday : Sales of poultry, produce, fruit, groceries, etc., at the mart. The whole have been well attended ; brisk competition ; and good prices have been obtained. The supply of produce has not been equaWto the demand. Much larger quantities could, have been disposed of at equally good prices, particularly so as regards po atoes, iresh butter, and bacon 'of good quality. A large quantity or fruit has come to hand. All met with a ready sale, at prices in advance of last week. Poultry: Fowls and chicks were entered in large number; but 'a tew small turkeys and "geese ;■ not a large number of ducks. Prices ruled low ; but few buyers ; bidding was languid. Not many pigs entered; there was not a great demand. , There has been good inquiry alter properties/ 'Some oc the unsold portion of the Bar tley estate has been disposed of, and other sales are pending. Mr Alexander Aitken's Market Report for the week ending 19th of January. — A large amount of business done, and prices on the whole in favour of vendors. Poultry has been in unusually large supply, and considering the quantity entered, prices ruled satisfactorily. Pigs in good numbers. Good breeds sold well, but interior lots ruled low. Potatoes in increased supply. All received up to Thursday night wete cleared forcxporc at late values; but the supply on Friday was very heavy, and prices offered at auction were lower, consequently all were passed, as no serious, decline is expected. Onions have been in good demand. Large quantity to hand. Butter, fresh, has somewhat impi'oved in price, and, owing to the very hot weather, supplies were shorter. For corned butter there is no sale. Eggs of good quality have sold well. Bacon is very slow of sale, but hams sell freely. Cheese quiet, and prices falling. Inferior quality is again coming in, which greatly affects the price of good makes. Fruit has been in greatly improved demand; The supply has been larger and prices all round better. Plums : In shorter supply. Apples : Increased supply : prices considerably higher. , Pears in good supply. Peaches : Larger quantities to hand ; sound kinds sold hiprh. Few gooseberries to hand ; rise in price. Cherries are done : those at Tuesday's sale sold better, none to hand on Friday. The following are the week's prices :— Fowls old, Is to Is Id ; good table fowls; Is 4d to 2s ; heavy young roosters, Is 9d to 2s ; ducks, 9d | to Is Id. No turkeys or geese. Pigs of good breeding 10s to 12s : mediums, 7s to 9s; inferior lots, 4s 6d to 6s. Potatoes : Hobarts, £7 to £7 10s; kidneys, £7 to £7 10s; shepherds, £7; bakers' potatoes, £3 to £3 10s ; cow potatoes, la 7d to 2s. Onions, £7 to £7 , 10s ; oats, 3s 6d ; bran, 5s ; sharps, ss. Butter, firsts, 4d to 7jd ; corned, 4d to 6d. Eggs. 7d to 9d ; bacon, 5d to 6d ; hams, sid to BJd. Section honey, damaged, 3d. Barrier honey, 2^d. Is 5d to 2s 6d ; peas, 3d to 4^d ; beans, 3d to 4d ; cabbages, 5d to Is 6d ; carrots, 4d to 9d; parsnips, 5d to Bd. Messrs C. I). Paget and Co.'report a busy week. There has been a decided increase in the supplies of all classes of produce, and good sales have been effected. Values for most lines remain unchanged. Potatoes are slightly easier in price, but demand still keeps up. On Friday there was a fair attendance present at the market sale and the following pi'ices ruled: — Poultry: Fowls, poor kinds, Is 2d and Is 3d each; ducks, Is to Is a d ; geese, 2s 3d; small pigs, 4s 6d to Bs. Produce : Potatoes, £6 10s to *7 per ton for all kinds of good samples ; onions, £7 per ton ; green peas, 5d and 6d per peck ; beans, 4d to sd ; plums, 2£d to 3d per lb ; apples, Id to l'ld per lb ; pears, jd to l^d ; cheese, 4d to 4id ; bacon, good, 6id to 7^d ; hams, 7d to 9d ; corned beef. ?d to lid ; Avheac, 4s 6d per bushel ; oats, 3s 9d to 4s Id; maize, 3s lOd; bran, £5 103 per ton ; sharps, £5 12s 6d; chaff, Is 8d to 2s 3d per sack ; flour, £11 10s per ton ; oatmeal, 15s 6d per cwt; honey, 2Jd. A quantity of groceries and oilmen's stores were quitted at fair rates.
