EXPLOSION AT THE CLONCURRY COPPER MINE.
Aboub 9 o'clock last night the powder magazine afc the Cloncurry Copper Mine works, Queensland, exploded. For some minutes before smoke was seen Issuing, and bmall explosions like those of crackers were heard by the people in the vicinity. Then a tongue of fire snob up to an immense height, and a terrific explosion followed. Strange Lo say, the dwellings and tenements in close proximity suffered no very considerable damage, the Copper Company's stables and store receiving the largest share, while the magazine was totally destroyed. No accident happened to life or limb, although one man was forced some yards into his hut unhurt. The damage in town was not great, being confined to brokeu windows and lamps. Persons in the bush heard tlio oxplosiori miles away, and saw stones and debris falling. Thp cause of the explosion is not known, bub it is thought that it has been caused by an incendiary.
