A TRAGIC OCCURRENCE IN VICTORIA.
Aooub 1 o'clock on January Bfch a sad occurrence took place at Bacchus Marsh, Melbourne. Ellen Jane Tanner, aged 17 years and 3 months, was engaged as saleswoman ab a drapei*'s shop. Mr T. B. Hikeley, her employer, took a small revolver off the, desk, . making some remark as to how he shot' parrots. By borne means which cannot be explained.-,, he discharged the weapon, and the girl save a scream and fell into his artos, Dr. Vaftice happened tio.l>o' at an adjoining chemist's shop, and ran in to see what • had happened ; from * €be quantity of blood flowing from the girl!s mouth he. thought she had been< shot; s probably, ih.rqugh ,the':hea'rb.* 'She died in a* few * minutes' -without \having spoken. The deceased was the yqupgesb daughter of mVs Tanner, widow,, landlady of the •Courthouse Hotel.
