NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS. WANT-OF-CONFIDENCE MOTION.

Sydney, January 16. Mr G. R, Dibbs has succeeded in forming a Ministry. The following portfolios have been allotted :—: — Premier and Colonial-Secretary, G. R. Dibbs. Attorney-General, Edmund Barton. Minister of Public Works, James Fletcher. Colonial Treasurer, James Patrick G aw in. Minister of Justice, Thomas Michael Slattery. Postmaster-General, Henry Clarke. Secrotary of Lands, William John Lyne. Minister of Mines, John Moor Charter. % Minister of Public Instruction. William H. Suttor, M.L.C. President of the Legislative Council, and Vice-President of the Executive Council, Hon. John Lockey, M.L.C. A caucus of the free trade paity was held this afternoon, when a resolution was carried to the effect that as the fiee Uacleis possessed a solid majority in the House, it would be a waste of time to permit the new Minustiy formed by Mi G. R. Dibbs to take office-to be aftei wards tifntd out. In the House this evening, on the motion to go into Committee of Suppl), Mr McMillan moved anamendment in the shape of an addiess to the Governor to the effect that the House resolves to refuse Supply, unless cause can be shown why a Ministry representing a minority should be allowed to hold office. The amendment was tantamount to a direct want-of-confidence motion. Sir Heniy Parkes, in speaking to the amendment, made a bitter onslaught on his former followers, whom he accused ot deserting the Government without the slightest cause. He contended that the new Government had come into powei quite constitutionally, and weie entitled to fair treatment at the hands of the House. Later on in the evening a scene occuired between Mr McElhone and the ex-Attorney-General, Mr Wise. The former indulged in gross personalities against the latter, and eventually Mr Wise threatened to horsewhip the offender.
