THE ZITHER.
.o-s i my on a grassy ohuk Hidden from mortal gaze, I closed mine eyes to dream o[ home, Of love, and happier days. Then softly o'er the lake came stealing Silvery sounds, like fairies' strain, Sweetly dulcet, And a well-beloved refrain. Soon within my tiny bark I skimmed the pretty lake, Seeking tor the fairy player Who could such sweet music make. Thinking of my beauteous Clara, Guided by that fairy strai. , Sweetly dulcet, And a well-beloved refrain. A syiph-like form in gauzy robe I saw beneath some trees ; ▲ zither just placed on the grassHen c the music on the breeze. Yea, 'twas Clara, ray loved darling, • Who had played the fairy strain. tff Sweetly dulcet, And a well-beloved refrain. She had loft her home, Now cruel friends were gone. To seek her love in foreign lands And bid him hope, not mourn ; Thus she found me, by the music 01 that pretty fairy strain, Sweeily dulcet. And a well-beloved refrain.
