Victorian Land Boom. W A R N I NG TO ENGLISH INVESTORS.
London, January 12. The ' Statist ' warnb English investors against the land inflation in Victoria. It publishes a letter from a prominent man in Me lhourne, stating that in companies iormed for the pui chase of land, the\endois became provisional director, and subsequently letiied JVlenil>ei^ of Parliament weie involved in the jacket, and new railways were authorised, with a view to buying land only to m-se 1 ctt a 'profit. The letter charges the Government with utilising their knowledge of State secrets, and asserts that there was no one in Parliament to expose the transactions, as most of the member were ill the swim. A private letter, icceived by the manager of a leading bank, predicts that a ciash will come, owing to hanks having over-lent, and that a collapse worse than the Bank of New Zealand is impending.
