Champjon Gold Mines, Limited, Tui: Work is now in full swing on this Co.'s propei'ty in connection with the four contracts recently let for opening up the mine. Messrs Yjf. Oornes, contractor for Nos. 1 and 3 contracts, and P. Dillon for No. 4, have six men employed on each of these contracts. With respect to No. 1, Burke, whose tender was accepted, having declined to sign the specifications and pVoce'ed vrith the work, it has been let to (J. 1 Gordon who waa the next lowest tenderer, and who started work on Monday last, Tiaying six men engaged also. '" Dillon and party, contractors for No. 4 section of the works, are now in with their drive a distance of fully 60 fee 1 ,. W. Comes and party (Tso. 1 contract), have cut the reef ; but have not yet cut through it. They are taking put some really good stone. The same ocfntractor is making good progress with the second contract he has undertaken. During the past week the Auckland directors visited the mine, and we understand that they intend to invite tenders at once for sinking a winze on the reef known locally as the ''waterfall reef," to connect with tlie crosscut low level, which will be continued a distance of about 100 feet to cut the winae. Plans for the »rial tramway, to connect the mino with the flat, will also be finished in a day or so, when it is the intention of the direetorsto invite tenders for carrying out the work. Ruakaka L. Hd : Work on this claim is principally confined at present to developing the new reef recently discovered in the Mikado portion of the property. This reef looks well, and from the appearance of the stone it should prospect well for silver, and also perhaps gold.
