Still in seveial lines of merchandise some little business wjis done, and distributing houses had an "average number of orders. The flour markee,*is steady ; roller brands are quoted ab "£l3 10s to £13 _ 15s> ; stone makes, £11 '10a --to £12. Very little inquiries for tea, ' the sales transpiring being inconsiderable. Dried fruits are steady at the rates quoted before the holidays, but little business having been done. Stoqks of rice -having be*en further supplemented by shipments, ex Tannadice (s ), the - market is, it , anything, rather weaker, £13 to £13 10-5 being quoted for line table sorts. Fish in raobb linos very dull of sale. Candles remain as- they were before the holidays, s|d being a full price lor De Roubaix Jenav's, the colonial being s'rd. Brewers' goods are' without change in value, the demand being- confined to small lines. In liquids there is a taiv demand for beer, both in bulk and bottlerl. A shipment of Ind Coope's to land was placed ; Robert Youngers new brew moving olf at £6 ss. Hennessy's brandy sthl very scarce, three-star bejtig worth 50s. A parcel of Bisquit> Dubonche placed at agents' prices. Burnetts Old' Tom almost unobtainable, lls being' paid for forward delivery. There is scarcely- any* movement in metals ; galvanised iron~being particularly dull of sale, at £18 15s to £19 15s per ton, the quoted prices. Sheet lead at the moment is obtainable at a lower price, £18 5s to £18 10s is full value. Fencing wire is going oft" in truck loads afc £10 5s to £10^ 10s for No. 8, and £11 5s to £11 10s for No 10. Dynamite is in good lequesb. In oils China is still dearer owing to the strong market in the East, and 4s ii. quoted by the leading holders ; castor oil is firm at 2s 10^d ; turpentine, 2s S^d. Cement having arrived in excess of the immediate demand, prices have given way 2s per barrel : 17s 6d to 18s may be quoted, though we hear of one lot forced on the market ab a lower figiue. In the produce marketyesterday at Darling Harbour auction sales, there was a small attendance of the trade. The supply of forage to hand amounted to 14 trucks, the bulk being of new crop hay. Competition was restricted to straw and chaff. Oaten sheaves were slack. Business opened after the holiday very quietly. Pobatoos were firmer and butter easier. At Darling Harbour sales the following quotations Avere obtained:— Hay.— Eight; trucks forward, largely of now oaten sheaves, which were sold ab prices ranging from 3s 4d to 4s 5d per cwt. ; gveen lucerne, in truss, 3s lid to 4s Id ; lucerne and oaten, in truss, 3s 3d. Straw.— Two trucks to hand. Clean uneaten, in bundles, 4s 2d to 4s 8d per cwt. Chaff. — Limited consignments, amounting to four trucks. Oaten, in bag, 6s 3d to 7s per cwt. ; straw, 5s 2d. At the wharves the following were the wholesale quotations : — Maize : Northern River productions are largely of weevily kinds. Primo lines ranged from 3s 6d to 3s 9d per bushel ; weevily from 2s 9d. Oats : 855 bags were yesterday added to stocks from New Zealand; feeding sorts, 3s 8d to 4s per bushel ; milling, 4s 2d to 4s 3d. Bran : Quoted lid per bushel. Pollard : Steady, Is per bushel. Hay : Additional supplies from the Hunter River this morning. A stronger demand prevails for well-saved dry green lucerne qualities, bub prices are unaltered ab £3 10s to £3 15s per ton ; very choice lobs, to £4 ; other kinds, from £2 10s. Chaff: Fairly good stocks. Adelaide, steady/ £7 to £7 10s per ton ; Victorian, £5 10s to £6 10s ; New Zealand, bo £6. Onions : New Victorian sorts quoted £13 per ton. , Potatoes': River, potatoes axe still commanding active attention at £15 per ton. Butter: Market weaker. Illawarra dairy kinds, Is 3d to Is 4d per-lb ; factory-made, Is 4d to Is 6d. Cheese. —'Ample supplies. Colonial descriptions slack, 6d to 7^d per lb ; New Zealand, bo B^d. Bacon. —Unchanged afc '8d to 9d ' pel* lb for hand-onred Southern ; machinecured, 6d to 7^cl ; colonial roll bacon, Sd to 9d ; hams, 7(!*fco lid.
