A ease oE suicide is supposed Lo have occtured fiom the Victoiia-fetreet Bridgp. A newspaper employee while going home found a small heap of clothes on the bridge, consisting ot a hat. coat, and vest?, and u large collar. Ho searched about but saw no one. He at once- gave information to bhoKew police. Documents found in the clothes beat' the name of Irvine Mitchell, showing that this person arrived in the colony on the last trip of the Orrnui He bad for some time been staying in lloddlc-ktreet. Late last night ho left a note under the door to the effect thai he determined to commit suicide, and lcit a note-book in hie clothes, containing the words: -*'I have walked between the bridge and the Junction Hotel eight times, communing with God Almighty, and ha\e quite determined upon committing suicide." A 'pawn-ticket for 2-5 was found in the clothing, and also affectionate letters from his wife and daughters in England, wishing him a happy newf year, and enclosing their photos.
