Ciikistoiiurcii, January 9. At the Secondary Schools Conference-to-day, it was resolved, "That the Minister for Education be requested to draw up and submit to the Legislature an Act to detine the relations between Boards of Governors and principals of secondary schools,' That in such Act the following- should be essential points :: — •' That all internal discipline, choice oi books, and methods of organisation of the school should be in the hands of the principal, who should have the power to evpel pupils, and bo bound to report expulsions immediately to the Board." "That no assistants shall be appointed or dismissed, and no change made in their status without the recommendation of the principal." "That the principals be consulted when alterations to the school buildings and grounds and other matters immediately affecting the welfare of the school arc under consideration. "' " That all school servants be under the immediate control of che principal." The Conference also icsolved, " That it is desirable that the number of junior University scholarships be increased," and made various suggestions for the future working of the scholarships.

Wellington", January 9. Ab a meeting of the Council of fclre Educational Institute it was resolved that the Government be requested to return to the bystem of paying on the working instead of " stiict average. 1 ' A number of other resolutions of minor importance were also passed.
