OHINEMURI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Paeroa, Friday.
The holidays arc at length over, anil matters are settling down into their normal condition. Picnics and excinv sions have been theoider of the dny, and the weather has been of the typical antipodean style. The Sunday School children had theiroutingou Boxing Day, when u most enjoyable holiday was passed at Mr Tetley'a homestead. A number of children and parents went to Puriri and Hikutaia schools picnic, which took place on New Yeai's day. All local sportsmen evinced great satisfaction at the pleasing news that Mr Dickey's Recruit had won the Auck land Steeplechase. The little horse has so long been identified with Ohinemuri that to back him is portion of our patriotism. The case Diclcey v. Brown, in the matter of the death of Libeller, which is said to have been the result of a trespass on the part of the defendant, comes off on Monday next. A larije number of witnesses have been subpoeneJ on either side. Several y^ung couples resident in Ohin^muri have boon joined together in j matrimonial bonds during tho holidays, and rumour sayefch that others are preparing for what, according to Mrs Caird, is the " fatal stop." Mr J. W. Walker met with a slight accident on Fiidny l.>st, liaving bocn thrown fioni bis horse at Kopu while going down to the Thames. He is however now all right. Another accident took place at Waitekauri on New Year's day, when a lad, named Bunting, fell from his horse and broke his leg. He was at once sent to the Thames Hospital, where he was attended to by Dr Williams. Mr W. T. Firth is ploughing nnil scarifying the land he Ims leased for potato cropping, and will immediately start planting.
