Rr*sv.a:s'e, December 28. — A serious fracas has occurred ab the Venus diggings, near Clermont. A parfcy of twal ye or fifteen Chinese have been for some days on very good gold, aud on Wednesday morning C. Rice and two others proceeded to lay out claims in Ihe line of wash. The Chinese objected ; but as? Rice and parfcy were on unoccupied around, and were ,110b attempting to interfere with the clainis already taken up, they took no notice. The Chinese thereupon attacked them with shovels and poles, llice sustained some scalp wounds and other injuries. One of tb£ men was badly cut about the arms. The Affair has caused considerable excite menb-at Olermont, and the police protection is insufficient.
