won the toss, aud the Maoris kicked off against the wind. Pease got the ball and a free kick resulted for the visitors. iSJcCausland just missed scoring. By good combined play, the home team gradually worked the ball down to the visitors' territory, where Stockton obtained a minor. Play continued very even until jupL before half-time, when Stockton secured a try, but failed to convert. Up to this the home • team had much the best of a moderately i fast game. On resuming, however, the play became much faster, and the Maoris soon asserted their superiority. Gage, immediately after the resumption, gained a minor, and directly after F. Warbrick secured another. Two more minors wero registered, and just befoie the whistle sounded McCausland kicked two goal? in succession. The New Zcalanders were thus victors by 2 goals and 4 miners against Stockton's 1 try and 2 minors. Teams :—: — Maoris — McCausland (back) ; Madigan, W.
