FREAKS of LIGHTNING. Wellington, Dec 17.
The Supermtendentrof th^ Cable" Company at La Perouse supplies the following with reference fco the thunderstorm yesterday : —"A rain and thunderstorm of exceptional violence occurred this morning immediately after closing. The lightningstruck the Government line at the fourbh pole from the station, shattering insulators. The lightning entered the office, fused the wire of the Government instrument, and passed through' a wooden partition, which ifrignited'and partly' shattered. ' *No -harm was done, though splinters were sent to' the extreme corners of the instrument room. The fire was at once extinguished Jby water.
