A CHRISTMAS HYMN.
i Unto youis born, this day a Saviour, which is ; Christ the'Lord.— Luke ii-11. ' Lay aside, y© busy toilers, ' ",' All the care, turmoil, and strife^ All the labour and the sorrow. Which make up the problem— Life. See ! from forth the highest heavens Heralded by angels' praise, - . Comes the Lord of life and gloryTo make known His Father's grace. Not with regal pomp and power, To which all the world must bow; But in infant's helpless weakness,' Jesus- our Redeemer, novr. • In a manger lying lowly —No room for Him in the inn— Tho' the Heavenly hosts announced him Come as Saviour for our sin. Yet unknown, unsought save only By th« shepherds, wondering still, A t the angelß* proclam ation, , "Peace on earth, to man good will." For their hearts, tho' sore affrighted Heard with joy the angel say, $- " Fear not, for I brine good tidings ' Chri3t the Lord is born to-day.'" And " with haste" to see the Saviour To His manger-bed they came, • Then " made know abroad the saying. " Spreading thus the Saviour's fame. Has their deed for ua no message, Has " the Lord made known " to us This His Christ, who for His glory Came to save -was hnmbled thuß. And shall we not spread His glory Tell His love to ruined roan ? Listen to the Father's pleading Then despise it— if ye can ! All the love of God in Heaven Was made known in Christ on earth • God commends his love to sinners. Taste and see the Saviour's worth. Worthy o£ Hcayen's highest glory As Eternity will show ' All the fulness of the Godhead, Pleased to dwell in Him beloirl Father, may thy love so wondrous Win our hearts to own the Lord And wiih joy (in Him abiding) 1 Live according to the Word. *
