SPORTING NEWS. PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB RACES. Auckland, Dec. 17.

The race meeting in connection with the Pakuranga Hunt Club came off on the Otahuhuracecoursoon Saturday. A rather cold wind was blowing throughout the afternoon but otherwise the weather was beautifully fine. There were about a couple of thousand spectators on the ground, and ah.iou^h there were but few close iimsi.es, tin; racing was interesting, and no protests or disputes cropped up. The racing track was in good older Mr \V. Adams had charge ot the totaiisators, and passed through £2,300 without complaint ot any kind. Messrs John Kirkwood did Y. Lawry, M.H.R., officiated as judges. Air T. Brown (the huntsman) was cleric of the course ; Mr T. Stephens satisfactorily wielded the starter's flag, and MrF. \Y. Marks acted as clerk of the scales. Hunter Artillery Band was on the ground, and played a number of musical selections. Appended are details of the racing. Handicap Maiden Pi^te of 25sov&, second horse to receive ssovs out of the stakes. For all horees that have never won an advertised race of 30sovs. One mile. Mr J. Entering the home turn, Petei Osbeck looked all over a winner, but at the hurdle, half way down the straight, he blundered, running out wide. Here Kangaroo came with a terrific rush, and ran home winner by a couple of lengths. Ca f esby fell at the hurdle rounding the home turn. Time, 3min 36sec. Dividend, £8 16s. A little further on, Capella assumed command, and she led past the stand, with Ernest on her quarters. Eruption, Lioness and Sir Walter being close up with Clogs in a good position. At the back of the course Eruption moved up to Capella and Ernest, who were still in front, but he soon died away again. Clogs then commenced to thread her way through the field, and she was first in the straight, Capella having shot her bolt. Once fairly in the straight, it could, be seen the race was all over Clogs running home an easy winner by a couple of lengths from Ernest, Antelope, who came with a rush at the finish, gaining third honours. Time, 2min. 44s&cs. Dividend, £2 11s. The Hack Race of 15sovs, top weight, 9st, one mile, was won by Mr B. Thompson's b q Buzzard, Hunt's Dollar being second, and Hanlan's Jamaica third. Comet, Hotspur, Stringtest, Ragman, and Skyscraper also started. Dividend, £2 6s. Handicap Steeplechase of 45sovs., second horse to receive ssovs. out of stakes. About two miles and a-half. Mr P. J. Havr thorn was first away, and led round the course at the back of the stand, Falcon and Whalebone being his closest attendant?, but when they came on to the course at the righb of the giand stand, Artist was in the van, Hawthorn second, Falcon third. Whalebone fourth, Kangaroo fifth, Oiaugo man sixth, and Peter Osbeck last. Kan garoo fell at the jump from the straight,, and at the back of the cour&e Artist was still leading, followed by Hawthorn, Whalebone, and Messenger. Here Artist bolted and a splendid nice round the back of the grand-stand took place, Whalebone leading, uith Messenger, Falcon, and Orangeman clote up, and in this order they landed on the course proper. .Messenger took the lead ou the flat, but running off at the last hurdle, he spoiled his chance, and Whalebone came home an easy winner. Dividend, £2 12s. The Pony Race of lOsovs, for all ponies 14h 2in and under, three-quarters of a mile, fell to Mr D. Wilson's Little Minnie, by Blacklock — Dainty Ariel mare, Walker's For-get-me-not being second, and Smith's Fanny Fisher third. The other starters were: — Pica, Dewdrop, Odessa, Ishutnata, Nonsense, Cyclops, Beeswing, Ladj Flora, Shooting Star, Sembele, Timotjhy, Cro-^ patch, Wild Girl, Dorritt, Mabel Gr,ey, ami Deception.
