FADED.
I stood where Death, dark minion. His solemn swlmesg'spread, And waved hjs, darksome pinion Above an infant's head, Until to realms supernal Her spirit took its flight, To scenes o? joy eternal— To days of lasting light. So early has she perished. Uncankered in the bud — That form so loved and cherished, Unscathed by passion's flood ; Up bj' an angel legion On vrings of brightness borne. To grace their gQldcn region— A rose' without a thorn. But though the pang was bitter That f arced us here to part. No teardrop' vain shall glitter, No anguish rend the heart. This life i&ev er fleeing From mortal's weak control ; Oh, picture, .theij, the meeting Beyond the final goal. Nor should we grudge our treasure That better lile above. When the hijjh Father's pleasure Has called her to His love ! Though forced from us to sever, How sweet her holy rest, Free from all ills for ever Upon her Father's breast.
