Laige busih tires near town have enveloped the whole place with snnoke, and bound for Port Jackson have not been able to make the land. The weather is very hot, and several cases of persons shuck down are ieported. One case to dti\ lesulted fatally. The piospecfc of the Yictoiian harvest is gloomy, except at Gippsland and the western districts. The barle}' crops are partial and oats are a total failure. The whole of the northern district watercourses are drying up, and water has to be carried many miles. The present prospect shows that the colony is unable to pioduce more tl an her own wants.
