FAILURE OF INDIAN CROPS.
CALCUTTA, Nov. 1. The failure of crops in several of. the districts in Madras Presidency has caused much distress. A relief fund is being started in Madras, and troops have been despatched to the distressed districts, for the purpose of patrolling the country, to prevent bands of losers pillaging the inhabitants.
