MINING NEWS.

Thames, October 19. Saxon. — Good headway continues to be made with the drive on the reef at No. 5 level, but the manager does nob intend to break down the quartz uutil the point is reached where the winze will come down from the level above, some fifty feet ahead of the present face. This winze is now down about 20 feet, but the lode will be left scanding until No 5 level is communicated with. There is no change to report from the stapes, which continue to produce quartz of payable grade. Caledonian. — The only work in progress in this mine is stopiDg on Rovve'3 leader. Colours of gold are seen in the quartz when breaking down. Paroquet. — Mr Harry Corin has been appointed underground manager for the Paroquet G.M. Go's, mine, and will commence his duties on Monday. It is stated that work will be started with a staff of 20 men. Deep Level Cross, — Operations are to be resumed on Monday.

Coromandel, October 19. Royal Oak. — The mine manager reports about thirty pounds fair specimens yesterday.

Coromandel, October 20. Royal Oak.— Since last report there has been a decided improvement in the mine. The reef has again been broken down, showing gold freely. About 401b specimens and picked stone were obtained, which I wired yesterday. The ground continues good looking, showing fine mineral veins running through the reef. There is still gold showing, which looks well for the run going up. There is nothing new to report from the tributers.

Thames, October 20. Prince Imperial.— -Brownlee and party, tributers, have cruahed 2 loads o£ quartz and 151b picked stone for 31oz of gold.

Taraiw Creek. — There is nothing new to report regarding bhe new " find " made by Lowrie Bros, in the Tararu Creek. Very little importance is attached to the discovery, as the leader is small, being only 3 or 4 inches thick. Colours of gold are seen in the quartz.

Cambria. — The No. 1 leader in the rise over No. 4 level is from 10 to 15 inches thick, and the other leader 6 inches. The quartz is of a favourable description and contains some nice mineral. The winze from No. 3 level is down 40 feet, and gold is frequently seen when breaking down the quartz. There is no change to report from the stopes.

Marototo District. — Work has been altogether suspended in the Marototo North and South Company's tninos, while in the Marototo G. and S. Co.'s holding only eight men are now employed. It is stated that the Sydney shareholders in these mines contemplate expending a good sum of money in prospecting the large tract of country between Marototo and Wattekauri.

Adeline Amalgamated.— The crosscut in the upper level has cut No. 2 reef, which is 2ft. thick and hanging-looking. This is the game reef as was worked on in the Rose section by the laab tributers, giving then 2Jozs to the ton. Where it is cut it is 4 inches thick, and nice-looking stone with a lot of flint about it.

The foreman of a Chicago, printing office received a note the other day reading as follows :— " Please eggscuse my husband for not coming to work to-day. He is ded."
