OHINEMURI. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Mr David Evans, a Sunny Corner Smelter, arrived at Paeroa on Thursday, under a six month's engagement to Messrs John ami J. M. Chambers. He will superintend the Works at Karangahake. Everything is now in readiness for the commencement of operations, which will in all likelihood eventuate on Monday next. I understand that the galena sent from Te Aroha, turned out to be useless for smelting* purposes, as it contained too much zinc. Another lot of ore for the furnace came down by Friday's Matuku from Te Aroha, Mr Walker, at "Waihi, has arranged with Mr S. Earl, of Katikati, for 70,000 bricks for the new furnace. Tenders are now called for the building of the furnace house. Mr Geo. Crosby, the enterprising mail contractor of Tauranga, has obtained leave from the Postal 'Department, to run the Tauranga mail via Waihi up to the end of his term. Mr Crosby is also inaugurating a daily mail to Waibi, and has arranged with Mr Bradley, the popular Te Aroha coach proprietor, to connect with his line. There has recently been some trouble among two local hapus of natives concerning a dispute re the Komata North No 1 Block, which is claimed by both parties. The land is not yet through the Court, but one of the parties are endeavouring to exercise rights of ownership in order to make their claim more secure. Recently about 50 chains of fencing was put up by this party, and a day or two ago the opposing hapu destroyed it all. The matter will be shortly ventilated in the R. M. Court. The block in question is a magnificent swamp of about 300 acres, and has been longed for by several parties of natives for many years. Mr ABher Oassrell, of the Cii tenons, has determined to dispose of his well known hotel, and try the effect of a change of climate. On Thursday evening last, Captain Bettis, of the Patiki, generously gave an invitation moonlight trip in his vessel as far as Hikutaia and back. About 200 were invited and came, the boat being packed. A most pleasant evening was passed, the company returning at a late hour to Paeroa.
