WAIORONGOMAI.
Tf, Aroha Silver and Gold Mining Company : The various works in connection with the new plant are being pushed on very rapidly, under the personal supervision of Mr 11. H. Adams, the Co's energetic manager. A quantity of kauri timber is being brought down by the tramway every day, and the recently elected circular saw is kept going from 6 a.m, to 6 n.m., it being found necessary to work over-time. Mr Howland, the contractor for felling the kauri and cutting it into flitches lft thick, prior to its being sent down to the flat, has a number of hands busily engaged at Ihe work. Mr Adams has let a contract to Mr John Somerville (formerly of the Thames), for the erection of the new building (Mr Adams cutting and supplying the timber as required), has now some eight or nine hands employed, and purposes putting on five more carpenters next week. In fact as many hands as can profitably be employed will be engaged. Already a large portion of the frame-work is up, and is, we may add, of a most substantial character ; all of kauri, and that of a first class description. Mr Adams expects to have the building completed within a month from this date. The chimney stack for the revolving and leverberatory furnaces was completed on Saturday lnst, and is now 65 feet in height ; nnd the masons are now building the reverberatory furnace, which work it is expected will be completed next week. Portions of the new machinery are are now arriving by the Kotukn eveiy week. The new assay plant has been completed and will be utilised for the fi'-st time on Monday next A DOUBLE PELTONWII EEL WITH GOVERNORS. One novel feature introduced in connection with the new plant is a double Pelton watenvheel (25 horse-power), which has already been placed in position. This is the first double Pelton wheel we have over seen, and was designed by Mr Adams, and made to his order by Messrs Price Bros. The wheel is fitted with governors (very similar in^ appearance to those used on steam engines, etc.), which, acting on the nozzle pipe, will regulate the flow of water, and as a matter of course the speed, as required. Mr Adams has introduced this wheel in order that the speed may be as steady and regular as possible for driving the concentrators.
