Pavitt, engineer, loathe Jßb'aid, was also present. Correspondence:. From E. Brothers, asking that hebe placed on the roll as occupier of Section .103, Block 11, Te Aroha Survey District. The Clerk \. was to write to the Crown "Lands- 1 Commissioner asking if there was any objection to the name being put oh (he being a village setiler), and also asking to hare the names of the other village settlers put on the roii. ;, • , From Messrs Hingden and Sheet, asking Board ,to construct outfall drain on the Waiorongomai-Maungakawaroad, near their property. They stated that the whole of the water which jruns into the drain on the "Waiorongomai-Maunga-kawa road close to their sections is packed up at the set of pipes which were last year put in, and consequently floods their section in the wet season. The outfall drain which was being constructed by them would carry off the water, and they would connect with this drain from the place were the waterflow was stopped for the sura of £10. The length of the chain would be 40 chains, 4 feet deep. Mr Hanmer said the backing up of the water did affect the road considerably. Recently a waggon loaded with chaff broke down at that spot owing to the softness of the ground. As he was partly interested in the road he would give £2 towards the cost of the work. Mr Burnett thought the road should be inspected before the work was authorised. It was resolved that the Engineer and two members of the Board should inspect the road. From Jas, Taylor, asking permission to erect gate on boundary with J. Turnbull at a railway crossing, some two miles from Morrinsville, also on top end of run near Mr Cowley's boundary. It was decided to grant the request, provided the gates be erected where the Chairman may point out. Mr Hanmer drew attention to the bad state' of the Waiorongomai road near the Purinui bridge, towards Hingden's. The Engineer was instructed to have the necessaiy repairs effected. Engineer's Report : The Engineer submitted his usual monthly report. Two swamps on Brothers' road required some filling-in work, and also a set of pipes leading to the outfall drain. Mr Brothers would do the work of filling in for £15. It was resolved that a portion of the road be constrncted at a cost not to exceed £10. Upon the report of the Engineer, it was resolved to expend £20 for the formation of a rra^ near Grntton's section, on the northern side of the railway, the Engineer to call for tenders for the work. With reference to these applications for roads, the Chairman said be thought it was a most unjust thing on the part of the Government to put all these village settlers on swamps. Applications came to the Board to construct roads, but the Jsonrd had no funds to carry out such works. He directed the Clerk to write to the Minister of Lands asking what assistance the Government would give towards constructing roads, through these settlements. Gravel Pit : The Engineer reported that he had selected for a gravel pit part* of Block 21, Te Aroha Survey District, containing four square chains. The site was on a piece of Government land near the railway crossing. The Clerk was instructed to make application for the section. Drainage Dispute : Mr Ross, of Waihou, waited upon the Board with reference to a complaint instituted by Mr Burbidge re an alleged encroachment on his property by draining through it. Mr Ross made a statement of the matter to the Board which was entertained, it being deemed merely a neighbour's quarrel. Upon the motion of the Chairman seconded by Mr Horrell, it was decided that instruction be given to remove twofences on the Government road in the Waitoa township. Kawhia road : The Chairman drew attention to the fact that this road had not been dedicated to the Board as required by the Lands Transfer Act. v It was resolved to communicate with Mr | Gould on the subject. \ Avenue road : It was decided on the motion of-Mr Horrell, seconded by Mr Turnbull, to metal half of this road at a cost not to exceed £50, the remainder to be- formed at a cost of £15.
