OHINEMURI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Paeroa, Tuesday.

A mining case of considerable interest , was heard before Mr Warden Northcroft at the Thames on Thursday last. After the Warden hail granted the license of the Mariposa claim, Waitekauri, of 20 acres, Messrs J. M. Chambers and Frederick Challis applied for the surplus ground (5G acres). Messrs John Neal and Edwin Edwards objected inasmuch as that their claim, the Saxon (late Eclipse), occupiod portion of, the ground applied for. The facts of the matter were that the fight was for a portion of the ground wbere gold was known to exist. The Warden, however, after hearing the case (which lasted nearly the whole da}'), came to the conclusion that the Saxon people were better entitled to the ground, and accordingly granted them their 14|- acres as applied for. As to the surplus ground, he adjourned his decision until the following day, when he threw it back into the goldfield. Several persons were busy pegging on Saturday, 'and applications have been put in for the surplus ground. At Waihi the reduction plant is all but completed, and a few weeks more should see everything in full swing. Mr Walker is getting some splendid ore from both the Bosemont and Union workings, The pumping gear is being got ready and the poppet head contract of Mr Geo. Colebrook is nearly finished. At Waitekauri Mr Cooper is arranging for the erection of his new plant, which will be superintended by Mr E. M. Corbett, as soon as he has completed the Waihi work. Mr Cooper is getting the old Te Aroha .Battery shifted down, and will also put up a couple of Mackay pans and a settler. The plant will be very similar to Railey's plant, at Karangahake, most of the Waitekauri ores being free milling. I anticipate better results from this cheap and simple plant than from any other in the district. At Karangahake, Messrs Parkes and Chambers have their rollers and crusher in position, and will, I understand, commence work on Monday next. Richards and Devon, tributers in the Rose, are crushing at the Ivanhoe battery. The Adeline amalgamated mine is getting into going order again. The plans of the entire property are being drawn and applications for the position of manager are to be shortly called for. This should prove a splendid piopeity, embracing as it does seveial of the best mines on the hill. Monday night's rain has done immeasurable c;ooil here.
