The Miners' Strike. HELP FROM NEW ZEALAND HELP FROM NEW ZEALAND MINERS.
Westpout, Sept. 7. The Denniston miners have voted £50 towards the support of the Newcastle strikers, and will make frrlher grants if required.
THE RATE OF WAGES. [ The following, from a recent issue of the Dunedin " Star,'' has an important bearing on the dispute : — The Press Agency, shortly after the strike began, circulated a statement, that, " as showing the pay the men received, a fortnight's pay-sheet, picked at landom, gives the highest amount earned at 22& per day per man, and the lowest at 9s 9d." The matter was brousiht urder our notice by an ex-resident of Newcastle, Now South Wales, who disputed the correctness of the figures, and at his instance we communicated with persons HkcW to put us m possession of correct information as to the wages earned by the miners.. We have received the follow ing telegiams, which ppeak for themselves :—
Brunxkktov, August 31. Please give statement circulated by P>e=;s Association an emphatic denial. 1 have cabled to Newcastle and -will give yoxi the repl\ on its receipt. The last news received here from Newcastle was to the etleit thar the highest wages paid to the miners was from 8^ to 10s per day.— George ßaxi kr. September 1. The following cablegram has .mst boon received by me, and yon are at liber! > to i^ivo il publicity : —" To Geoige Ba~ter. Brunnerton. The statement is entirely false, and has been put forward to liiuire the miner-> 'case.— J. Curlev, Secretary. Newcastle."— LtP.ohoi: Baxter.
