OUR MINING EXHIBITS AT MELBOURNE.
Auckland, September 1. Mr -Jojin Bik']iv>a>, Chairman of Lho Chamber of Commeice, who i& now in j\Jclbourne ab cbe Exhibition, has cabled bo the Hon. E. Mitchelson, Minisbei for Public Works as follows :
JVIKU'.OUKNI:., AllgUatSO. "Our mineral exhibits wretched failureCantiol calculate injury to colony, Meeting New Zealanders on Monday. Condemnation inevitable." The steamer Manapouri will probably take for Melbourne on Thursday next the collection of exhibits of quart/ and ores troin the various mines in the Thames, Coromandel, Ohinemuri and Te Aroha districts. With regard to the exhibits .some lifcblo difficulty had arisen, as the mine owners declined to forward samples of any quantity unless they received a guarantee that their specimens would be safely returned in four months. As the Exhibition would not be closed in that time, it is apparent that the withdrawal of the Coromandel .specimens would serioiibly injure the Auckland mineral exhibits. Mr Adam Porter and others have communicated with the Government on the matter, and it is hoped that the difficulty will bo &atisractorily overcome. The bulk of the Upper Thames exhibits will arrive on Wednesday next, packed ready for shipment. Mr Porter will probably proceed to the Thames on Monday to make arrangements in connection with the forwarding of the exhibits.
