MINING NEWS.

Thames, August 27. Saxon.— There is very little change to report in this mine. Fair headway is being made with the drive at No. 5 level by the contractors, and a favourable description of sandstone is being penetrated. Colours of gold are seen >hen breaking down the quartz in the various stopes. but very little picked stone has been obtained lately. Cambria. — The crosscut at No. 4 level, from No. 7 leader, is passing through a nice class of country. The leader should now be close at hand. Ni;\VEERY-YArTi>\ — The contractor has been unable to do much up to the present towards the erection of this plant on the foreshore,a.s he has experienced considerable difficulty in procuring the necessary timber from the Kirikiri sawmill owing fco fche accident to the boiler. He will resume work, however, to-day. Ihk Maxaia Goi-d Find. — Six tons of quartz treated at Fraser and Co.'s reduction works, for Messrs Blackmore and Ruffer, from their new gold find at the Manaia, between Coromandel and Tapu Creek, gave a return of bullion valued at £157 13s 6d. The Bank of New Zealand return of a similar parcel of stuff from the same mine showed a total value of £154 13s Id. New Prince Imperial. — The mine manager reports that the hanging-wall portion of the reef still maintains its_.promising appearance, and good dabs of gold are always seen when breaking down. There are now seventeen loads of quartz on hand. Tributers : There are now only five parties in the mine, who are meeting with far from promising results. Goldwater. — The mine manager i-eporbs that as soon as the work in hand is finished he will start driving to cut the reef at a lower level, and expects good results.

Blenheim, August 27. The Picbon correspondent of the Marlborough " Express," relates the finding of several nuggets of some weight at Makipawa [Mahakipawa] goldfield. There is a large number of men on the field, but there is nothing as yet to justify a "rush."
