OUR GOLDFIELDS Thames, August 9.
JNis\vm-;iutY Vautix Pkockss.— Dr. Scheideand Mr Pratt of the Nowberry-Vautin Com] pany, returned to the Thames on Thursday evening- after a four clays' trip to sovcral of the mines in the upper district. Both were well pleased with what they saw, and brought back with them bpecimens of quartz from every distiict visited.
Askiiam-Molloy — Tho newly -appointed manager, Mr Hales, has returned from Auckland, after repoilinj* to his directors upon tho eilicicncy of tho plant. Jt is intonded to erect a coder Jam to keep back the tide, and also to get in order the injector, which is to convoy the tailings fiom tiho foicbhoro into tho battery.
Pakoqukt. — Mr Power, who is acting on behalf ok the Melbourne) syndicufco who aio negotiating for the purchase oi this mine, lias forwarded his report to Melbourne. The lesult will most probably lead to the completion of the purchase, on the tcuns recently announced.
Waio'lVahi. — The crosscut has now £ob into /inn country again, and ii; the working in the YVaiotahi section oi the mine a jroocl gwido of quartz ib still coming to hand.
CajMp.kia. — The leadoi- wliich was. intersected on Wednesday List, eroded the drive at almost;- right angles, and has eonsequontly been lefo behind. Some nico colours of gold wore seen avlioii cutting through it. Coloius of gold aie frequently &cen when breaking down .No. 7 leadet above No. 3 level. The battery is now engaged in reducing quartz 12 hows daily, and the amalgam obtained i'ldic-atey a payable return. " |
Caledonian. — Rowe and party, tributere, completed a crushing of 12 loads to-day, for the payable return of 180/s. 13d \v L melted srold.
PiiixcE Impekiau. — In tho eastern workings from a fool to fifteen inches of quartz aro coming to hand, in which coloius of gold appear to bo pretty freely distributed, while occasionally a little picked stone is selected. S toping is being 1 carried on as usual upon the hangingwa.ll of No. 1 root at No. 3 level both at the ea&fcorn and western ends.
N.MY FnAKNouoifT. — The mine manager reports as follows undor date 18th inst : — The drive on the reef ih in a distance of IS feet irom tlic crosscut. The root continues about 4 feet in width and .shows when breaking down a good class of mineial. The crosscut continues to pass thiough an oxcellcnt class of country, but rather of a lighter nature. A consideiablo numbc of small veins and mineral scams have been intereected. The cro&s cut i& in a distance of 40 feot from the main drive.
Trenton.- The mine manager reports as follows under date of 18th in.st. : — The country in the shaft has been a little easier worked this week, and bomelhing soft lias been touched this morning in the eastern corner oi tho shaft. The little that has been taken out here is soft clay mixed with silica. The contractor has sunk it 5fb ] 6in this week, and timbeied up 16ft.
Gism. — The mine manager reports, that up till Uio 18th inst. ho hut I been bonding the surface dvhe ahead ', and on Saturday he got a few stones showing coarse gold. The leader is on an average 9 inches and making, the stone looks promising and the country all that can be desired. The contractors, arc now in a distance oi nearly 70 fecb. A little gold was been in several stones taken liom the large reef but they are not breaking down the reef.
New Prince Iju'i.rial. — The mine manager reports under date August 18th. — The quartz being broken out from the eastern stopes about No 3 level is of a nice iiicndly description and .shows gold almost every bi caking down, and occasionally a few picked .stone are selected. A small portion of the load in the western end was broken down on Friday and fallowed god freely. Thcie arc now 12 loads of quanta in the hoppers.
Nlu Aluurxiv.— Tho mine manager leports on fche 18lh in&L that dm ing tho past week fchc nfcopes? have been extended cabb a consideiable distance past Lho junction, of iho small leader met. with in the early part of the week, and theiefoic theic had not been an opportunity ot breaking down any of the leader at lho junction for tho past few days. There arc about 12 loads of quartz in the paddock and 90 lbs picked stone on hand. Tho tributcrs axe doing well.
