A.s Mounted Constable Kelly was making his rounds througn the district ye&terday, Mr Liowland Hill, one of the settle s, informed him that a man named Petei liansen h d been iound dead in ihe bed ot the creek at WaiLakerei West. It appeal s that Mr Hill is the contract o i 1 tor ihe construction ot the new road to the West Coast, and Hanson was in his employ, engaged working by himself in building a bridge over the cieek wheie he was iound. Mr Hill and two other workmen were busy at another portion of the road about: a quarter of a miie distant. At midday yestoulay they called Hansen to come to dmnei as usual, and receiving no reply, Mr Hill and one of the men wont to the biidgo to ascertain why ho did not answer. Upon reaching the biidgc they were astonished to hnd liansen lying in the eieek, his body and logs being in the water, while his head lesled upon the bank. Theio wao not more than three inches of water in the creek at the time, as it "was unusually low. Hansen was subject to severe lits, and it would seem a& if ho had i alien from the bridge, a height of seven feet. Mr Hill and his men remo\ ed the body to a place or safety, and an inquest was ai ranged to be held at 2.30 o'clock this allot noon, ao Waitakeiei Wed. The do ceased not moic than 27 years of ago, and a Dane by birth. He X not known to have any relations in the colony.
