The committee for this purpose have now some L 9 or LlO to their credit, which will make a decent start in the matter of books. Miss Edith Baskett severs her connection with the Paeroa school shortly. At Karangahake the bricklayers' work has been finished at the furnace, and the stack will be placed in position immediately. The old stone crusher is not working satisfactorily, nnd it is now proposed to get a set of rollers instead. Mr Haslett who is superintending the erection of the plant, under the direction of Mr Parkes, is constructing- a series of shoots and hoppers which will minimise labour: The allotment of scrip in the Adeline Amalgamated mine, Karangahake, is being done. Holders of original Adeline scrip are being well treated, holders of every 100 scrip being allotted 75 in the amalgamated property. As soon as preliminaries are complete, arrangements aro to be made to float the mine on the Melbourne market. A very heavy wind and rain storm swept over this district on Thussday night, and at the time of writing still continues. There is every probaliiy of a heavy fresh.

There are many indications of an early but premnturo spring in country distiicts, owing to tlio extreme mildness of the winter, the willow trees in various places being already out in leaf.
