WAIORONGOMAI.
Te Aroba S. and G. M. Co.'s Property : — The prospects of this Company are steadily improving as work progresses in the mines, The Colonist drive in what :s: s generally known as the Hero part of the claim, has now been carried past the Hero boundary and into the Co.'s ground, and grand dirt is now coming to hand, showing gold freely, The drive is being pushed ahead, and the ore being broken out is being crushed at the Co.'s battery. In the New Find portion of the Co.'s property, the 450 feet level being driven on the reef is being pushed ahead ; and during the past two or three days the appearance of the reef has considerably improved, the stone now coming to grass being of a very kindly nature which it is believed will prove payable. Fair progress is being made with the 450 feet level, and it is expected the reef will be reached during the present month. The country now being passed i through is of a very kindly nature for the existence of the precious metals. ' Owing to the hardness of the ground, but slow progress is being made with the 900 feet level. Goldsworthy and party are still surface prospecting the new reef discovered in thai portion of the Co.'s property formerly known as the Army mine, and with very favourable results. At the Battery 35 head of stampers are kept at work, one shift, reducing ore from various parts of the Co's property. Work in connection with the tailings plant and revolving furnace is|teoiporarily suspended, whilst some repairs are being effected. Contract for Supply of Kauri Timber : — During the past week a contract has been let to Mr Howland of Waiorongomai, to supply 200,000 feet of kauri timber. This timber will be cut out of the kauri bush at Waiorongomai creek. A number of large boulders on the site selected for the erection of the buildings for the new plant, are now being got out of the way by blasting, and other preparatory clearing work is in progress ; so that there may be nothing to hinder the progress of the work when building operations commence. Colonist Mine :—ln: — In this mine the low level (as stated in the earlier portion of this report) being-snow up fcrthe Colonist G, M. Co's boundary, the only work at present being? proceeded with is that of sinking the \\ inze< to meet what is known as the Hero low level ; and good gold is showing every breaking down.
