Peter Kemp, the present holder of the sculling championship, and Edward Hanlan, of Toronto, have been matched to row another race on the Parramatta River. The course will be the same as on the occasion of their first match. The race is to take place on Friday, the 28th day of September. It will be for £500 a-side and the titular honour of champion sculler of the world. The men will not go into active training until about six weeks before the date of the contest. A sculling race for £100 a-side was rowed ovei the Parramatta championship course on the 13th inst. The competitors were Henry E. Searle, a promising young oarsman, who hails from the Clarence Ki\er, and James Stansbuiy, a youth of 20, who belongs to the Shoalha\en district. Both the men had previously defeated Julius Wulf, a sculler of no mean repute, and oonsiderble interest was taken in this match, which terminated in the defeat of S tans bury. Searle started a firm favourite at 2to 1 on. The men got away to a capital start, both striking 40* to the minute. After the first burst the pace was moderated to the ' ' thirties. '" At Uhr"& Point Searle led his opponent by threequarters of a lengrth, and at the mile beacon, which was passed in 5 minutes 35 seconds, the Clarence River man had a lead of a cleai length. Searle rowed in good form, but Stansbury was wanting in style, and laboured too much. Nevertheless he pulled a magnificent race, and made several repeated and most determined attempts to outrow his more speedy and graceful opponent. Searle, however, was enabled to maintain the advantage he had gained, and he eventually beat Stansbury by two lengths, the time being the fastest yet recorded in a match race on the Parramatta, viz., 19 minutes 53 seconds, Trickett's time for the same distance — 20 minutes 11 seconds— being the next best. The contest was decided on the last of an ebb tide, and under conditions favourable ts making fast time.
